Painted in James Street, Tipperary Town, this mural is a tribute to the 140 years of the historic local CJ Kickham Brass & Reed Band. Many local families have had a long connection to the band which is one of the towns oldest institutions, and they proudly continue it’s noble musical heritage to this day. Some of the elements depicted here include the passing on of the tradition to coming generations, Sliabh na mBan sheet music which was written by Kickham, the bandmaster’s baton, and a Bloody Sunday Tipperary football jersey. This historic jersey is included because the band played in Croke Park for the following All-Ireland Final, where the ‘Soldier’s Song’ was played for the first time by any band at a major sporting occasion.
