Commissioning a painting is one of those things that many people would love to do, but shy away from, as there is a mistaken perception that it’s a difficult process.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  For those that do go ahead, it’s usually a really enjoyable experience, as there’s always a unique and personal work of art to show as a result of the exercise. It could be a portrait or favourite landscape for yourself, or a surprise gift for a loved one on a special occasion. As a corporate or sporting retirement present for example, a unique and thoughtfully commissioned painting is always greatly appreciated by the recipient, and would be a treasured keepsake in any club, home or place of work. A commissioned painting is always a good idea as an auction item for your favourite charity or sports club fundraiser also.

Leinster Council chairperson, John Horan presenting Michael Delaney (CEO Comhairle Laigheann) with his specially commissioned painting on the occasion of his retirement. This piece was based on an old photo from Michael’s sporting youth, and I’ve included some of his friends and late father.

The process gets underway by simply emailing me at info@irishsportsart or calling me at 087 – 416 55 27 for a personal response without obligation.  Together we can then discuss ideas to produce a treasured conversation piece and work of art.  Costs vary, and depend on many factors, such as the level of detail, size, level of preparation required etc.  A commission can be negotiated to match the amount a client may wish to spend, and in this mass-produced age, few gifts possess the enduring value and prestige of a thoughtfully commissioned original painting that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Please note, that while much of my work is sports related, it’s not exclusively so, and I enjoy painting all types of subject matter.  It’s my job to make the process easy and enjoyable for anyone considering a commission.
